In 1952 it became clear that the Aswan dam cannot provide more than need of Egypt and does not guarantee reliable protection against mass hunger. Naser promised to build the latest high-rise dam in 6 kilometres up on the river which will give to Egypt the future, will lead to development of new sectors of the industry and will send the electric power to each village. When under the pressure of the United States the Global bank has refused to grant the promised loan, Naser has carried out nationalisation of the Suez Canal to receive means for a project embodiment, and has addressed for the help to the USSR. Construction of a dam (1960-1971) proceeded and after his death, as well as an era of the Soviet-Egyptian cooperation. When in the late eighties Egypt has decided to establish more powerful turbine generators, he has bought them from America – then it has become clear that with Russian there were less troubles. At present for implementation of the new huge project in Toshka whom someone called «A playground for engineers», the West European contractors are invited.
